On 13th September 2018, the Mall of Switzerland opened the first artificially generated indoor surfing wave in Switzerland. In addition to the wave, Pointbreak GmbH also operates a restaurant with a bar and an event location called “Oana”, covering 1,200 square meters in total. As was the case with the construction of the Mall of Switzerland, FREO Switzerland AG was entrusted by the owner with the overall management of the project. The construction period for the entire Oana surfing world was around seven months.

The size of the indoor surfing wave is impressive. The basin measures 20 x 28 meters and is up to two meters deep. Eight pumps ensure that enough water is flushed from the 800,000-litre tank to form a wave up to 1.4 meters high in the basin. If you stand at the edge of the basin, you immediately see that this is pretty high. In order to produce the artificial wave, the leading technology worldwide, Citywave®-Technologie, created by the German Action-Team Veranstaltungs GmbH, uses pressure instead of water speed. The result is controlled, safe surfing with an authentic feeling.

Now, the Swiss surfing community and all surfing enthusiasts finally have a new place to meet and a home of their own. On the indoor surfing wave, anyone young or old can fulfil their dream of surfing in Switzerland, since surfing is permitted for children aged six and above and adults alike. In other words, regardless of whether you’re a beginner or a professional, the indoor wave will make any surfer’s heart beat faster.
